Spanish Culture Study Kicked Off!

Trinity Lower School Arrives in Spain!

This morning the Lower School kicked off a month-long culture study of Spain. Excitement was in the air as the students boarded the Iberian Airlines "plane" in Willett Hall for the 4,758 mile “flight” to Barcelona, Spain! "Suitcases" and "passports" (prepared weeks ago in Art and Spanish enrichment classes) were in the hands of each student as the entered their assigned “gate” and approached their “flight attendants.” Students were greeted, guided to their “seats,” and advised to “fasten their seatbelts” as they prepared for take off. Students were directed to the big screen in Willett Hall as their plane lifted off and the “captain” began running through the flight plan for the journey. During the 8 hour and 25 minute “flight,” the students were “educated” on famous sights and information on Spain by two well versed “tour guides.” Upon “landing and deplaning”, students entered the “streets” of Spain and were greeted by several fully costumed Spaniards!

Students are in for an exciting month of study! Exhibits from Spain are displayed in the hallways for the entire month. Each grade level has chosen an area to research and share about by the end of the month. The Lower School Faculty has four learning goals for this culture study:
1. teach concepts through interactive exhibits
2. use an interdisciplinary approach to study a country
3. teach critical thinking skills
4. develop an understanding and appreciation of the people and culture of Spain
